How to install the SSL certificate.
- Request SSL: Clearly state the domain name and type of web server where your website is hosted.
- Confirm your SSL: confirm that you are in control of your domain, which is thanks to the SSL certificate and the browser.
- Download and install SSL: download your primary and intermediate certificates from the SSL control panel.
- Redirect HTTP: once setup is complete, you can redirect visitors to the HTTPS version of the site.
- Check the installation: Enter the URL in a browser and look for the trust indicator. If it appears, the installation was completed correctly.
How SSL certificates work?
First, the SSL agreement.
When a website visitor accesses an SSL-protected website, your SSL certificate automatically creates a secure and encrypted connection with the visitor's browser. Your website is most secure when the SSL certificate is used on all pages and subdomains.

Now all information passing to and from your website is encrypted, protecting your sensitive data.
The trust indicator is displayed.
Once the connection is complete, the "Not secure" warning is removed and replaced with a trust indicator and the https prefix in visitors' search fields, to show that their sensitive information is being encrypted.

As of 2020-09-01, SSL/TLS certificates cannot be issued for periods longer than 13 months (397 days). All SSL certificates purchased after this date will have the new validity period and those purchased before will have the same as before.
When the MAQ Techs SSL certificate is issued, we’ll send you an email to let you know. What happens next depends on where you have your website and the options you choose when purchasing the certificate.

Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificates authenticate websites and allow them to switch from HTTP to HTTPS encryption, protecting the exchange of sensitive information that visitors send to or receive from a website.
An SSL certificate on the website creates trust with your visitors and protects user data, verifies ownership of the website and helps prevent hackers from creating a fake version of the website. Authentication
SSL certificates verify a client’s ownership of the domain and help prevent the domain from being attacked or impersonated.
Encryption
SSL/TLS encryption is possible via the pairing of public and private keys that support SSL certificates. Clients obtain a public key to establish a TLS connection from the server’s SSL certificate.
HTTPS
SSL certificates are required for the HTTPS URL. HTTPS (the secure version of HTTP) is displayed on websites where traffic is encrypted with SSL/TLS. In addition to protecting user data, HTTPS brings increased reliability and a higher level of trust among website visitors.
There are three types of SSL certificates; MAQ Techs offers all of them, with each certificate having its own level of security. It is important to understand which SSL certificate you should use when doing anything that involves user personal data.
- SSL Certificate with Domain Verification (DV). DV certificate confirms the website owner. The certificate authority sends an email to the website’s registered email address to confirm its identity. No detailed company information is required, and the DV certificate is the easiest to obtain.
- Organization Validated SSL Certificate (OV). The CA must confirm the physical address of the organization and the domain name of the website. The process takes 2-3 days. OV certificates have a medium level of trustworthiness, and are suitable for public websites where lower-level transactions are conducted.
- Extended Verification (EV) SSL Certificate This SSL certificate has the highest level of security and is ideal for websites that handle sensitive information. Before issuing an EV-SSL certificate, the certificate authority carefully reviews the applicant company. The review process includes examination of company documents and confirmation of identity, and the confirmation of relevant information goes through a database belonging to a third party.
All SSL-encrypted websites have the prefix https:// in the URL field. Websites with a MAQ Techs Premium EV SSL certificate have a trust indicator in the search bar that immediately tells visitors that the organization’s legal and physical presence has been verified according to strict industry standards.
When you purchase a Premium EV SSL certificate from MAQ Techs, a very extensive review process begins. We verify the control of the domain and the legitimacy of your business by validating the registered name, address, phone number and other business details. The process takes about 30 days, but we’ll make sure you’re protected even during that period. MAQ Techs EV SSL Certificate includes a free SSL Certificate – Default used during the review process to protect your transactions while you wait.
Depending on how your site is configured, you may want to use something other than a single domain SSL certificate.
- Wildcard SSL certificates cover all subdomains of a domain name. For example, you can secure *.coolexample.com, which can cover shop.coolexample.com, www.coolexample.com and any other subdomains.
- UC SSL certificates can cover multiple subdomains, unique domain names and websites. For example, you can secure www.coolexample.com, mail.coolexample.com and www.awesomeexample.com.
